Hair Edition: Kiehl's Sunflower Color Preserving Shampoo / Kiehl's Strengthening & Hydrating Hair Oil-in-Cream (Review)
Strong and healthy hair is a common goal among the feminine universe and I don't escape such a fundamental rule. I have always had a special tenderness (addiction!) for trying different hair products, mainly because, while growing up in the most innocent of ignorances, I saw myself dealing for years with an extreme craziness of frizzy dry hair. Once I attained the disposition to read and learn about my hair's specific needs and, more importantly, when I reached the financial proficiency to invest on various products and treatments, my hair became more malleable (the relief...).
For 18 years my hair preserved its virginity concerning colour treatments but, two years ago, I have also vertiginously surrended myself to the ombré look. Without any doubts, it is a beautiful look... However, the inclination for a change had been accomodating for quite a while now and, as so, three months ago, I decided to go back to my natural hair colour. Conclusion: I have experienced colour on my hair and as such, I comprehend the necessity for using products that will prolong the results.
Cabelos fortes e saudáveis é um objectivo comum para qualquer mulher, não fugindo eu a tal regra máxima. Sempre tive um carinho especial (vício!) por experimentar diferentes produtos capilares, até porque, crescendo na mais inocente das ignorâncias, tive que lidar com uma loucura extrema de cabelo seco e frisado. Atingida a disposição para ler a aprender sobre as necessidades especificas do meu cabelo e, mais importante, alcançada a capacidade financeira para puder investir em variados produtos e tratamentos, o meu cabelo passou a ser mais maleável (alívio...).
Durante 18 anos o meu cabelo manteu a sua virgindade relativamente a tratamentos de cor mas, há dois anos, caí vertiginosamente na trend das californianas. É um look lindo, sem quaisquer dúvidas... Contudo, a disposição para uma mudança já vinha a assentar por um longo período de tempo e, como tal, há três meses, decidi voltar à minha cor natural de cabelo. Conclusão: tenho experienciado cor no meu cabelo e, como tal, vejo a necessidade em utilizar produtos que prolonguem os resultados.
The first contact that I had with Kiehl's was through a received sample of the nighttime facial oil (Midnight Recovery Concentrate). Since then I have submerged on a state of allurement for the brand. For whom is not reacquainted, the brand was created in 1851, having initially been an apothecary in East Village, New York. It is in 1849 that the formerly named Brunswick Apotheke receives the designation of Kiehl Pharmacy, when the apprentice John Kiehl bought it. But it wasn't solely the establishment's fascinating history that explains my first trip to the store. The fact that all their products are made from natural oils made me compose an ode of gratitude for finally having experimented some of the more recurrent products and so far I have not been disappointed.
But I should probably start reviewing the products in question.
O primeiro contacto que tive com a Kiehl's foi através de uma amostra que recebi do óleo nocturno (Midnight Recovery Concentrate). Desde aí que mergulhei num estado de fascínio pela marca. Para quem não é familiarizado, a marca foi fundada em 1851, tendo começado por ser um boticário na zona de East Village, em Nova Iorque. É em 1894 que o anteriormente denominado Brunswick Apotheke ganha o nome de Kiehl Pharmacy, aquando a sua compra pelo aprendiz John Kiehl. Mas não foi a história fascinante do estabelecimento que me valeu uma viagem à loja. O facto de todos os produtos serem feitos à base de óleos naturais fez-me escrever uma ode de agradecimento por ter finalmente experimentado alguns dos seus produtos mais recorrentes e, até agora, não tenho ficado desapontada.
Mas e se começasse então pelas resenhas dos produtos em questão?
Sunflower Color Preserving Shampoo - destined to be used on locks that have experienced colouring treatments, it prevents the colour from fading and maintains the shine. It promises results of hydration, the cleanliness of the hair fiber without damaging the colour and a shiny and voluminous hair. And just like this it ALMOST materializes everything that it secures. Having this shampoo as an ally, the ending results are very promising. The colour has been prolonged and protected and the hair welcomes a vibrant and even tickening effect, since the light texture doesn't weigh down the hair. However, if you share the same fears as I do and dryness haunts your nightmares, this shampoo will not arise as a wonder-worker. Even if it treats colour with love and affection, it is not capable of hydrating the hair for its own. My suggestion is to pair this one up with a heavy mask or... How opportune! The product that I will review consecutively works wonderfully as a deep treatment.
And how refreshing is the ingredient list! This product has no traces of parabens, silicone and sulfate, not exactly for the delight of those who appreciate shampoos that create abundant foam, since sulfate is the main responsible for its creation. But so many other factors compensate this last one: sunflower oil (it is a powerful natural oil), containing vitamin E an fatty acids; apricot (the origin of its beautiful caracteristic scent), a potent mixture of vitamins B3, B5 and B6; UV-protective filter, that prevents the colour molecules from suffering any damage.
Sunflower Color Preserving Shampoo - destinado a ser usado em cabelos que passaram por tratamentos de coloração, prevenindo que a cor se esbate e mantendo o seu brilho. Promete resultados de hidratação, limpeza da fibra capilar sem danificar a cor e um cabelo brilhante e volumoso. E assim concretiza QUASE tudo o que assegura. Tendo este shampoo como aliado, os resultados são muito prometedores: a cor tem sido prolongada e protegida, o cabelo recebe um resultado vibrante e até densificador, já que de textura tão leve, não pesa no cabelo. Contudo, se tal como eu, a secura assombra os vossos pesadelos, o shampoo em questão não surgirá como remédio milagroso. Ainda que tratando a cor com muito amor e carinho, não é capaz de hidratar os cabelos por si só. A minha sugestão é que tomem como par com este produto uma forte máscara de hidratação ou... Que oportuno! O produto que eu de seguida irei falar é maravilhoso enquanto tratamento profundo.
E como é refrescante a lista de ingredientes! Este produto não tem quaisquer traços de parabenos, silicone e sulfato, facto este último que não dará muito agrado aos apreciadores de shampoos que formulem espuma abundante, já que o sulfato é o principal responsável pela criação daquela. Mas são muitos os factores que compensarão por este último: óleo de girassol (é um poderoso óleo natural), contendo então vitamina E e ácidos gordos; damasco (daí vem o cheirinho maravilhoso característico neste produto), uma potente mistura de vitaminas B3, B5 e B6; filtro de protecção UV, impedindo assim que as moléculas de cor artificial sofram danos.
Strengthening & Hydrating Hair Oil-in-Cream - a leave-in conditioner, it contains all the characteristics of a common conditioner but it is also capable of potentiating them more effectively, since the product is totally absorbed by the hair fiber. It should be used after showering, on clean and towel-dried hair. A small amount of the product (I am forced to report that the scent is hypnotic), starting with the tips and length and gradually moving up to the roots, the promise is fulfilled: it restores the life of dry and damaged hair, leaving it incredibly shiny (but not greasy, YEAH!!!), voluminous (due to the absence of silicone) and wonderfully scented. Even if, in my opinion, every hair type will benefit from the application of a leave-in conditioner, this one should be used with heed by those who worry about oilyness, since this is an oil-based product. If you decide to give it an opportunity, restrain the application to the tips of the hair and leave the roots untouched. Concerning the ingredient list, just like the shampoo, is quite positive! Cetearyl alcohol (an emulsifier that comes from natural oils); cetyl esters (a substance that thickens the hair fiber); dipalmitoylethyl hydroxyethylmonium methosulfate (a conditioner originated from palm oil); avocado oil, extremely enriching and hydrating; potato starch, it leaves the hair soft and supple; extract of olive flower, that heavily contributes for the product's smell and efficacy, since it is the main ingredient.
A few of the ingredients are not equally as beneficial but when deluded in this beautiful cocktail of components, they won't be as corrosive.
- chlorhexidine (a fairly acceptable preservative);
- behentrimonium chloride (an unfriendly substance but when deluded it won't cause irritation);
- parfum, that even being harmful it achieves redemption, only because the smell is marvellous!
Strengthening & Hydrating Hair Oil-in-Cream - este é um leave-in conditioner, contendo todas as características de um amaciador comum mas sendo capaz de as potencializar mais eficazmente, já que o produto é totalmente absorvido pela fibra capilar. O produto é utilizado após o banho, em cabelo limpo e húmido. Uma noz frutada (é de se referir que tem um cheirinho HIPNOTIZANTE) deste produto, começando pelas pontas e comprimento do cabelo e avançando gradualmente até à raiz, e o prometido é concretizado: restaura a vitalidade dos cabelos secos e danificados, deixando-o incrivelmente brilhante (e não oleoso, IUPI!!), volumoso (devido à ausência de silicone) e maravilhosamente perfumado. Ainda que a meu ver todos os tipos de cabelo beneficiarão da aplicação de um leave-in conditioner, este deve ser usado com precaução por aqueles preocupados com a oleosidade, já que é um produto à base de óleo. Se decidirem dar-lhe uma oportunidade, mantenham-se apenas nas pontas e deixem as raízes intactas.
Relativamente à lista de ingredientes, à imagem do shampoo, é bem positiva! Álcool cetearílico (um emulsificante com origem em óleos vegetais); cetyl esters (um densificador da fibra capilar); dipalmitoylethyl hydroxyethylmonium methosulfate (um condicionador que vem do óleo de palma); óleo de abacate, extremamente enriquecedor e hidratante; fécula de batata, proporciona um acabamento macio; extracto de fruto de oliveira que, enquanto ingrediente principal, contribui em muito para o seu aroma e a sua eficácia.
Alguns dos ingrediente não serão tão positivos mas diluídos em todo este cocktail de componentes, não são tão corrosivos:
- gluconato de clorexidina (um preservativo não muito acidificante);
- behentrimonium chloride (uma substância não muito amigável mas quando diluída não causa irritação);
- perfume, que ainda sendo prejudicial é desculpável, apenas porque o cheirinho é maravilhoso!

In conclusion, both products are worth the attributed monetary value and after two months of usability, I can only recommend them!

Em conclusão, ambos os produtos compensam o valor monetário que lhes é atribuído e após dois meses de utilização, só tenho que os recomendar!
Abaixo deixo algumas fotos para que possam formar um juízo individual relativamente a estes produtos, tendo como indicativo o estado (saudável, espero eu!) do meu cabelo. E antes que mergulhem na imensidão exemplificativa, devo avisar-vos que estas são fotos bastante aleatórias...
